Interim CNO Appointed

Gretchen Aguilar has been appointed as the Interim Chief Nursing Officer (CNO).

Gretchen graduated in 2002 from Wenatchee Valley College North with honors as a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN), and continued on with her Nursing program education, and again graduating with honors, obtained her Registered Nurse (RN) license in 2003.

Gretchen's Nursing career began at North Valley Hospital in Tonasket, Washington and was hired on at Okanogan Douglas District Hospital (ODDH) for the Night shift in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) in 2004. Later, she moved to Day shift as an ICU/ER Nurse and then on to Charge Nurse. In 2008 she moved back to Night shift -- as Charge Nurse this time -- to accommodate her children's schedules.

As the ODDH Chief Operating Officer , Sandy Sylvester, explained, "State statute requires Nursing leadership. Gretchen is an experienced Nurse and she is well respected by her co-workers. When I asked her for help, she did not hesitate to take on the position. I trust she will do a fine job as interim, and new ODDH Chief Executive Officer, Bud Hufnagel, will choose the permanent CNO soon."

NOE is the part of EHR data entry where the Nursing staff generates requests for procedures from other hospital departments like medications from Pharmacy, x-rays from Radiology or blood work from the Lab.

This week's activity will include installation of new computer hardware to the Nursing floor.

Auto-Transfusion Option Offered

Recently, an OrthoPAT system was presented to Okanogan Douglas District Hospital (ODDH) by one of the regional physicians.  A company representative was on-site for two days to provide training sessions for available staff and help promote benefits of utilizing the auto-transfusion system over other options.  The equipment was provided to the hospital free of charge, with materials available at regular cost, enables ODDH to add yet another service for our communities.

The three most common ways for a surgery patient to receive blood are:
  • Blood bank... when a unit of blood from an anonymous donor is collected, tested for safety and stored
  • Pre-Donation... when a surgery patient expecting a procedure donates their own blood to be used, if needed, and their own blood is stored until the date of the procedure
  • Auto-transfusion... when a piece of equipment, such as the OrthoPAT system, uses the patient's own blood at the time of the procedure without the need for storage

If you are scheduling a surgical procedure at Okanogan Douglas District Hospital in Brewster, Washington soon or an unexpected surgical procedure is needed, ask your doctor or the OR Supervisor about your options of using the OrthoPAT system.
